SpiceJet has issued a travel advisory to passengers, announcing that all its flights to and from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport will be operated from Terminal 3 until October 26, 2024. In a post on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), SpiceJet assured passengers that any updates regarding their flights will be communicated via SMS or email to their registered contact details.

“#TravelAdvisory: All SpiceJet flights to/from Delhi will operate from Terminal 3, Delhi Airport till further notice. Necessary information will be communicated to all the passengers on their registered contact details (SMS/Email). The passengers are requested to ensure sufficient travel time and keep a check on their flight status,” the airline said in its X, formerly Twitter, post.

Notably, T1 was frequently used by airlines such as SpiceJet and IndiGo for local flights to and from the nation’s capital. T1 is one of the three terminals of Delhi Airport, with an annual capacity of 40 million passengers.

IGI Airport Terminal 1 shut!

As per a report by Reuters, the main domestic terminal at Delhi airport will probably stay closed for a few weeks following the collapse of a canopy at T1. Two other terminals that serve domestic flights would be under more strain.

“It could take a few weeks, if the issue is small but very likely that it could take beyond a month if the problem is major. No matter how much time it takes, the terminal will not be reopened until everything has been checked thoroughly,” Reuters quoted a source at GMR Airports Infrastructure, which operates the airport.

Moreover, Delhi airport provides services to about 1,400 flights daily across its three terminals. Presently, flight operations from T1 accounted for less than 15 per cent of the total, since they were progressively restarting following the recent expansion.
