Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Monday (September 9) said that the civil aviation ministry is actively addressing the challenges faced by SpiceJet. The goal is to maintain a balance that accommodates more airlines in response to the high demand in the Indian market.

SpiceJet is currently dealing with a range of issues, including financial and legal troubles.

“We are looking at SpiceJet… with the demand we have, we need more airlines to operate. So we are trying to have a balance and address the problems and (ensure the) airline runs properly,” Naidu said in response to concerns about the budget carrier.

SpiceJet under enhanced DGCA surveillance

On August 29, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) placed the airline under enhanced surveillance, which includes increased spot checks and night inspections to ensure operational safety.

Regarding air ticket prices, Naidu mentioned that they are determined by market forces but are monitored by the ministry. Should there be a significant increase in fares, the ministry will provide recommendations to the airlines.
