Law enforcement agencies in Ahmedabad are investigating a bomb threat on an international flight that landed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Monday. The incident comes amid a surge in hoax bomb threats targeting Indian flights.

According to police, a letter claiming the presence of a bomb was discovered during a security sweep of an IndiGo aircraft that arrived from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, at around 9:30 AM. The letter was found after passengers had deboarded.

“A thorough investigation by the Ahmedabad City Police, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is underway to assess the authenticity and seriousness of the threat,” said Ahmedabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sharad Singhal. He added that passengers were asked to stay back as part of the investigation.

In 2024, India witnessed a sharp rise in bomb threats, with the Ministry of Civil Aviation reporting 728 such incidents, 714 of which targeted domestic airlines. In response, the government has implemented strict protocols under the Bomb Threat Contingency Plan (BTCP) to manage such situations effectively.
