Traffic jams are a familiar sight on Bengaluru’s roads, but a rare and unusual scene unfolded recently at Kempegowda International Airport — a runway traffic jam. A video circulating on social media captured a long line of aircraft waiting for their turn to take off at Bengaluru Airport, creating an unexpected congestion on the tarmac.

The video, shared by Karnataka Portfolio, shows several planes lined up on the runway, highlighting the airport’s growing operational pressures. While Financial Express could not independently verify the footage, the situation has sparked lively discussions online.

Concerns about rising air traffic

Bengaluru, already infamous for its road traffic woes, now seems to be facing similar challenges at its airport. The incident has raised concerns about the increasing air traffic and the strain it places on airport operations, particularly during peak travel times.

Social media reactions

Some social media users pointed out that Bengaluru’s airport is equipped with parallel runways, suggesting that one runway could have been used for takeoffs while the other remained dedicated to landings, potentially alleviating the congestion.

Others speculated that such delays often occur when airlines do not stick to their scheduled departure times, causing a ripple effect that clogs available slots for takeoff.

A few users also mentioned that this isn’t the first time such a situation has occurred, indicating that runway traffic jams, though rare, are becoming an occasional problem at the airport.
