In October, the annual growth of domestic air passenger traffic in the country reached nearly 11%, totaling 1.26 crore, as per official data released on Thursday. This marked an increase from 1.14 crore passengers in October 2022 and 1.22 crore in September 2023.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) data indicated that IndiGo carried 79.07 lakh passengers, securing a domestic market share of 62.6% in October. This was slightly lower than the 63.4% recorded in September. Air India’s market share rose to 10.5%, up from 9.8% in September, while Vistara and AirAsia India (AIX Connect) saw declines to 9.7% and 6.6%, respectively.
SpiceJet’s market share increased to 5% in October from 4.4% in September, and Akasa Air’s share remained unchanged at 4.2%.
Significant growth
The DGCA reported a significant annual growth of 26.98% in passengers carried by domestic airlines from January to October 2023, reaching 1,254.98 lakhs compared to 988.31 lakhs in the same period the previous year. Monthly growth was 10.78%.
In October, scheduled airlines denied boarding to 587 passengers. Flight cancellations affected 30,307 passengers, and 1,78,227 passengers experienced delays.
