Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met with Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu discussing the development of airport infrastructure in the state.

The meeting, held during the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief’s two-day visit to the capital, centered on exploring opportunities in the aviation sector and optimising the advantages of central government schemes.

Airports in Andhra Pradesh

At the moment, the state has seven airports located in Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Kadapa, and Kurnool. Additionally, there is a private airport in Puttaparthi.

Union Minister Naidu told the reporters post his meeting with the CM, “We discussed how the expansion of the aviation sector can aid in the state’s development, which has faced challenges over the past five years.”

The chief minister stressed the urgency of accelerating terminal expansions at various airports, including Rajahmundry and Kadapa, where work is currently in progress. The Centre has pledged to ensure the rapid completion of these projects.

Additionally, discussions explored the potential conversion of private airports for civil operations to expand flight services.

Regarding new airports, the Union Minister mentioned that the Centre would evaluate proposals based on land availability and technical feasibility.

Naidu added that the CM emphasised the importance of having more airports in the state, connecting key cities.

Chandrababu Naidu is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah and Nirmala Sitharaman during his visit.
