Airbus had sparked global consternation on Saturday after announcing a mandatory ‘recall’ of nearly 6000 aircrafts. The announcement affected several hundred planes in India — with the DGCA temporarily banning use of the entire A320 family of aircraft. Both IndiGo and Air India issued advisories to warn that instructions from Airbus could lead to a “longer turnaround”. The two leading domestic carriers have since shared an update about the ongoing system upgrade.
According to the latest data from the aviation regulator DGCA, IndiGo and Air India did not cancel any flights, while Air India Express cancelled four flights due to the system modification process.
IndiGo completes software update
“We are pleased to share a completion update on the mandatory Airbus system enhancement across our A320-family fleet. All 200 aircraft have now been fully updated and compliant as required,” IndiGo shared in a late night message.
The airline added via X that all its planes were now operating “with the latest approved configuration” and assured that it would continue to monitor performance as part of routine safety procedures. IndiGo said the upgrade programme was executed through a coordinated effort between its engineering and operations teams — ensuring each aircraft received the mandated system enhancement without disrupting flight schedules.
Air India shares update
“Air India has successfully completed the reset on over 90% of its operating A320 family aircraft that were impacted by EASA and Airbus’ requirement for a software realignment. We expect to cover the entire fleet within the timeline prescribed by EASA, with safety remaining our top priority,” read an X post from the airline on Saturday night.
It also lauded engineering and ground staffers who had “worked round the clock to ensure there were no cancellations and that the impact on our schedule integrity across the network was minimal”. Air India Express also said on Saturday that it had completed safety checks on most of its fleet— with the remaining checks to be completed soon.
