Budget 2024 Parliament Session Highlights: The Budget Session commenced on Wednesday with President Droupadi Murmu’s address to a joint sitting of both the Houses, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. While recounting her government’s achievements, she said that “initiatives like Make in India, Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Digital India are our strengths now”.
On February 1, Thursday, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the interim budget in the Parliament. The interim budget will allow the government to meet its expenses till the Lok Sabha elections are over and a regular Budget Session is called.
The session is scheduled to culminate on February 9. According to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, the main agenda of this session was the President’s address, the interim budget, and a debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address with a reply by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Meanwhile, the suspension of 14 Opposition MPs – 11 from the Rajya Sabha and 3 from Lok Sabha – was revoked on Tuesday evening.

Talking about the potential of tourism sector in the country, President Murmu said, "Tourism is a sector that provides employment opportunities to the youth. A record number of tourists are reaching the northeast region. There is excitement among people about the Andaman Islands and Lakshadweep. Around 13 lakh devotees have taken darshan at Ayodhya Dham after 'Pran Pratishtha'."
During her address in the Parliament on Wednesday, President Droupadi Murmu said, "My government is working on developing the solar power capacity in the country."
"Under a special drive, my government is taking 4G internet connectivity to thousands of tribal-dominated villages...Underwater fiber cable has been laid down in Lakshadweep as well," Droupadi Murmu said in Parliament today.
President Droupadi Murmu said, "My Government has also taken care of those who were far away from development, so far. In the last 10 years, electricity and road connectivity reached for the first time in thousands of tribal villages. Lakhs of tribal families have started getting clean water through pipelines only now."
During the address in Parliament, President of India, Droupadi Murmu, said, "Armed forces are firm against terror expansionism. Terror activities have fallen in Jammu and Kashmir."
While addressing the joint session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, President Droupadi Murmu said, "My Government believes that a developed nation stands on four strong pillars. These are - youth, women, farmers and the poor. My government is working to empower all four pillars."
Hailing the government for keeping the inflation in the country in check, President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday said, "In the past years, the world witnessed two major wars and faced a pandemic like coronavirus. Despite such global crises, my government kept inflation under control in the country and did not let the burden on common Indians increase..."
During her address, President Murmu said, "In the last 10 years, India has seen the completion of many such works in the national interest for which people were waiting for decades. The construction of the Ram Temple was awaited for centuries. Today, it has become a reality...Abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir is history now."

President Droupadi Murmu hailed the rapid development of Indian Railways and mentioned that "39 Vande Bharat trains are running across India".

Ahead of the presentation of the Interim Budget, Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Swati Maliwal, who is set to take oath as Rajya Sabha MP today, said, "This Budget should be such that it benefits the women, the farmers, the poor, the youth and also the middle class."
A 140 CISF personnel contingent has been deployed at the Parliament complex as part of the new measure to frisk the visitors and their baggage during the Budget Session that will commence shortly, PTI reported.
The Union Home Ministry has sanctioned the strength after a comprehensive security review of the facility was undertaken in the wake of a breach by a few people, who entered the Parliament hall filled with MPs and sprayed coloured smoke canisters during the Winter Session on December 13 last year. Ahead of the Parliament Budget Session commencement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the media.
The Lok Sabha chairman revoked the suspension of the MPs who were suspended during the winter session of Parliament for "violation of rules" and their cases were referred to the Privileges Committee. Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has also revoked the suspension of 11 members of the House who were held guilty of breach of privilege by the House panel.
At least 146 members were suspended from both the Houses during the Winter Session. Most of them were suspended for the remainder of the term of the session with a few cases sent to the Privileges Committee of the respective Houses.
