Budget 2024 Parliament Session Highlights: The Budget Session commenced on Wednesday with President Droupadi Murmu’s address to a joint sitting of both the Houses, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. While recounting her government’s achievements, she said that “initiatives like Make in India, Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Digital India are our strengths now”.

On February 1, Thursday, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the interim budget in the Parliament. The interim budget will allow the government to meet its expenses till the Lok Sabha elections are over and a regular Budget Session is called.

The session is scheduled to culminate on February 9. According to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, the main agenda of this session was the President’s address, the interim budget, and a debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address with a reply by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, the suspension of 14 Opposition MPs – 11 from the Rajya Sabha and 3 from Lok Sabha – was revoked on Tuesday evening.

Parliament Budget Session Live: PM Modi to address media shortly

Ahead of the Parliament Budget Session commencement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the media.

The Lok Sabha chairman revoked the suspension of the MPs who were suspended during the winter session of Parliament for "violation of rules" and their cases were referred to the Privileges Committee. Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has also revoked the suspension of 11 members of the House who were held guilty of breach of privilege by the House panel.

At least 146 members were suspended from both the Houses during the Winter Session. Most of them were suspended for the remainder of the term of the session with a few cases sent to the Privileges Committee of the respective Houses.
