Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Economic Survey for 2024-25 in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Friday. Following the presentation, both the houses were adjourned for the day. The survey which is a pre-budget document complied under the supervision of the Chief Economic Adviser, gives an overview of India’s economic performance for the current fiscal year (April 2024-March 2025) and predictions for the upcoming financial year.

Here are main highlights of the Economic Survey 2025

GDP Growth: The Indian economy has recorded a 4.5% real GDP growth in the July-September quarter of 2024-25, remarkably lower in comparison to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) 7 % forecast.

Forecasts has been revisited: The RBI has recently made changes in its GDP growth estimate for 2024-25 from 7.2% to 6.6% whereas the government’s forecast is at 6.4%.

Previous performance: India’s GDP increased by 8.2 % in 2023-24 and has maintained its position as the world’s fastest-growing major economy. In terms of previous years data, the economy enlarged by 7.2% in 2022-23 and 8.7% in 2021-22.
