The wait is nearly over as Tata Motors gears up to launch the Altroz Racer. This hatchback made its debut at Auto Expo 2023 and was again showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. The sporty iteration of the premium hatchback boasts a new turbo petrol engine, design enhancements, and extra features. A comparison with the standard Altroz underscores the premium attributes of the Altroz Racer.
Tata Altroz Racer vs Altroz: Engine Specs
The Altroz Racer will be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which produces 118 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. It will be mated to a brand new 6-speed manual transmission, a first for the Altroz range. The standard version is available in four options including CNG. The naturally aspirated 1.2-litre pumps out 87 bhp and 115 Nm and comes with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The 1.5-litre diesel produces 89 bhp and 200 Nm with only a 5-speed manual. The standard version also gets a 108 bhp 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine which is mated to a 5-speed manual. Lastly, there’s a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine in the CNG version that has an output of 99 bhp and 103 Nm and gets a 5-speed manual transmission.
Tata Altroz Racer vs Altroz: Infotainment System
The new Altroz Racer will boast a bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen like the one available in the 2024 Punch EV and the updated Nexon. The Racer will come equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The current Altroz gets a 7-inch infotainment system with wired connectivity options.

Both the Altroz Racer and the standard Altroz sport a 7-inch instrument cluster but the former sports an all-digital driver’s console. It has a multi-information screen along with the speedometer and turn-by-turn navigation alerts in the centre, the tachometer on the left side and the fuel gauge on the right. The Altroz Race will be the second hatchback in its segment to offer a head-up display after the Marut Suzuki Baleno. The current Altroz has a semi-digital and an analogue speedometer dial. The digital screen sends door open alerts, odometer, mileage reader, fuel gauge, tachometer and driving modes.

Tata Motors has souped up the Altroz Racer with plenty of features. It gets front-ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, an air purifier and a voice-activated electrical sunroof. The Indian manufacturer has stepped up regarding safety as the Racer will come standard with six airbags. Both the Racer and the top models of the Altroz get a wireless phone charger. The standard version, on the other hand, gets dual airbags. Based on the ALFA architecture, the standard Altroz and the Racer have been awarded a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating.

The Altroz always had a solid road presence with its chunky front fascia, sleek double barrel projector headlamps, and LED DRLs. The Altroz Racer, as the name suggests, looks sporty with its dual-tone paint scheme and two white stripes running from the bonnet to the roof. It gets additional Racer badges, new all-black 16-inch alloy wheels and black leatherette seats with red and white racing stripes.
