BJP surge in Goa is surprising. Did AAP overhype its chances?

xit polls have predicted that Bharatiya Janata Party may retain power in Goa.

    March 10, 2017 13:39 IST
Kichcha constituency In the wake of election campaigning that been going on for months, the fight continues between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Indian National Congress (INC) and others. While BJP contested the Uttrakhand election without giving a face to their CM candidate, INC has been fighting with current CM Harish Rawat on the front foot. The polling in the state took place in a single phase of February 15 for leadership over the 70 seats. Ever since the polls, BJP leaders have been confident of their victory in the state. Their confidence was boosted by the pre-election opinion polls. On the other hand, current Congress CM Harish Rawat too claims to be re-elected. The exit polls that came out of March 9, took everyone by surprise. The over all prediction about the state shows BJP having an upper hand over INC, while some show a neck to neck competition between the two. Number of voters According to the State General Assembly Elections 2007 data, there are a total of 83,370 male voters and a total of 73,922 voters. The total voter turn out for the 2012 Assembly elections was 76.50 %. What are the key issues Kichha has a constituency that is largely based on agriculture. Paddy and wheat are crops that are grown in this constituency. Who was the winner last time Bharatiya Janata Party won the Kichha Assembly Constituency in 2012, where BJP candidate Rajesh Shukla won the constituency after getting 33388 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Sarwar Yar Khan was the runner up with 25162 votes. Who are the competing candidates Rajesh Shukla (BJP), Harish Rawat (INC), Rajesh Pratap Singh (BSP), Sanjay Singh (SP) and Anil Kumar Sharma, Mohd. Jalees, Sanjay Grover (IND). Why this constituency is important? The constitutency of Kichha is important because current Chief Minister Harish Rawat contests elections from here. As compared to BJP, Congress has a lower winning percentage in this constituency according to past numbers. Hardwar After the massive political chaos occurred in the state of Uttarakhand last year wherein chief minister Harish Rawat were charged with allegations of corruption that even led to his floor test, the voters exercised their rights to elect the fresh government. The state witnessed record 68 percent voting for 69 constituencies held in a single phase on February 15. The state came into existence in year 2000 after it was carved out of the state of Uttar Pradesh. The state has seen three elections so far and the voters have elected either Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or Congress. This time again there is a tough competition between the two big parties. The Congress has worked hard to retain power in the face of anti-incumbency and its dwindling fortunes in other states, while BJP has put all its effort to gain power in the state. In the past few months, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress vice president had extensively campaigned for their respective parties and did their best to woo 75 Lakh voters of the state. A whopping 628 candidates were in the fray for 69 seats. In the last Assembly elections held in 2012, no party got majority. The Congress was the single largest party and it forged a post-poll alliance with the PDF to form government in the state. The BJP was the runner-up and it sat in opposition. Hardwar Vidhan Sabha constituency is one of total legislative assemblies of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. Number of voters? What are the key issues? Besides unemployment and migration, lack of power and other infrastructures like road constitute major electoral issues in the region. Who was the winner last time? The BJP defeated Congress by 8,620 votes to win this constituency during the 2012 Assembly elections. BJP candidate Madan Kaushik Joshi won the constituency by 42,297 votes followed by Satpal Brahamchari of the Congress who got 33,677 votes. Who are the competing candidates? Madan Kaushik (BJP), Anju Mittal (BSP), Brahmswroop Brahmchari, (INC), Adesh, (UKKD) and Adesh Kumar (AVIRP) along with four independents candidates namely Manoj Kumar Sharma, R avish Bhatija, Rajkumar Aggrwal and Vijay Laxmi. Why this constituency is important?
