The state-run coal miner Coal India (CIL) reported a production growth of over 10% to 44.37 million tonne (mt) for October, which helped the company post an production increase of 9.2% for April-October period of the current fiscal to 273.91 mt,  compared to the corresponding period of the last fiscal.

The company also improved evacuation of coal to consumers by 9.9%. For the first seven month of this fiscal, CIL managed to raise its off-take by 9.2% to 295.80 mt. The Indian Railways along with Coal India and state government of coal-bearing areas have formed joint ventures to build three important rail links which are likely to help evacuate nearly 300 mt more of coal. One of these lines Jharsuguda-Barapalli in Odisha, is expected to be operational by July next year.

“Almost all the coal producing subsidiaries of CIL registered positive growth, with Northern Coalfields registering a whopping 18.8% growth,” CIL said in a statement. It added that off-take during the period has also increased for all the subsidiaries of the company with Central Coalfields recording the highest evacuation at nearly 16% compared to the same period a year ago.
