The world of autorickshaws, until now predominantly controlled by Bajaj Auto in the country, is about to change with the entry of TVS Motor Company, well-known for its scooters and motorcycles. TVS is all set to make its debut in the three-wheeler segment this January with the launch its auto rickshaw called TVS ?King?.
?It will be launched around the third or fourth week of January,? said J Krishnakumar, assistant general manger, marketing, three-wheelers. The ‘King’ is on display at the 9th Auto Expo at New Delhi.
Asked what will the price range be, Krishnakumar said, ?It will match the market price.?
To start with, TVS Motors plans to focus on the southern states including cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore, among others, with its two-stroke petrol and LPG variants of King. On plan for north, Krishnakumar said, ?We plan to launch the vehicle in Delhi around April-May.? Other variants including the four-stroke petrol and CNG versions of King are expected to be launched by April. ?All the variants will be rolled out over a period,? he added. Also on cards is the diesel variant of King.
TVS Motor also has plans to roll out a goods carrier in the market latest by next year. ?We have plans of launching a goods carrier as well,? indicated K Srinivasan, vice-president, sales and services, three-wheelers, TVS Motor Company Ltd.
?It will be something like the Piaggio?s Ape,? Krishnakumar added.
