Giving a major thrust to its aerospace and defence businesses, the Tata group has proposed to establish aerospace and defence products manufacturing facility in Hyderabad.
It has finally identified the special economic zone (SEZ) promoted by APIIC for aerospace and precision engineering industry.
Tata group has approached the AP government with a request to allot 50 acre of land in the SEZ, which was agreed by the chief minister Rajasekhara Reddy at a high-level meeting here on Tuesday. The manufacturing facility will be established by Tata Advanced Systems, a Tata group company, which is already engaged in the aerospace and defence business. It has good working relationship with various defence establishments including DRDO, RCI, BDL etc, and Hyderabad will have location advantage, sources said.
APIIC promoted 250 acre aerospace special economic zone is located at Adhibatla village in Ranga Reddy districts, about 8 km from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad. It has already got in-principle approval from the Board of Approvals (BoA) and expected a Gazatte notification soon.
?The chief minister has already instructed APIIC management to issue allotment letter in favour of Tata group company, Tata Advanced Systems,? a senior official told FE. The company is expected to start civil works at the project in the next two months, he added. Besides, the government also plans to offer co-developer status to Tata group company, which will be the anchor customer for the SEZ, the officials added.
Interestingly, the Tata group had already signed a cooperation agreement with the Israel Aerospace Industries covering a wide range of defence and aerospace products. It also had entered into agreements with other global majors like Boeing for production of aerospace components. Officials say that the government proposed to offer co-developer status to the Tata Advanced Systems, which also become the anchor customer, sources said.
