Tata Teleservices (TTSL) will become first private sector telcom company to launch 3G services. TTSL is going to start the services in all the nine circles for which it won the spectrum this Diwali.

The country’s fourth largest mobile operator has over 77 million subscribers.

Bharti Airtel has said that its 3G services will be launched only by the end of the calendar year.

Tata Tele’s 3G services would be in partnership with Japan’s NTT DoCoMo which has 26% stake in the company and was the first company to have created 3G network in the world.

When contacted a TTSL spokesperson confirmed the launch of the 3G services around Diwali.

?NTT DoCoMo has provided technical inputs to make TTSL’s 3G network world-class. The various 3G services provided elsewhere by the company like i-mode, location-based services and mobile payments will all be provided in India,? company officials said.

The onset of 3G services would see another round of tariff war and race to acquire subscribers by mobile operators. TTSL had earlier pioneered the per-second billing concept last year in October which led to fierce tariff war amongst operators. The company’s 3G network has been built by Nokia Siemens and China’s Huawei Technologies.
