Tata Steel feels its production performance would see an improvement during the April-June quarter compared with the preceding quarter as things were looking up gradually in infrastructure and the construction sectors.
Speaking to FE at Lupungutu, 63 km from Jamshedpur, Tata Steel managing director HM Nerurkar said, ?I can see a slight improvement in terms of whatever actions have been taken by the government. That?s why I?m hopeful.?
Asked which particular areas of the steel market were showing improvement, Nerurkar said, ?We are seeing some improvements in infrastructure, in construction and auto sectors. I hope things will change.?
Nerurkar said the Jharkhand had policies in place but lacked in implementing them. ?If there is no implementation on ground, MoUs will remain mere MoUs,? the man said.
Asked why Jharkhand, which now has in place a redrafted second industrial policy, was still lagging behind in industrialisation, the Tata Steel managing director said the state, which had iron ore mines and held the potential of having steel plants and downstream units should focus on implementation of its policies in a coordinated way.
Nerurkar said Tata Steel, which was working in the area of enhancing skills of the local youth so that they could be employable by the steel industry, had already adopted an ITI in Jharkhand and is in the process of acquiring another ITI in the state as also one each in Orissa (Jajpur) and Chhattisgarh.
The steel major is also planning to launch another big skill development initiative, this time along with the Centre, details of which would be announced in a couple of months from now, Nerurkar said.
