Tata Power’s profit after tax after statutory appropriations rose by a record 144% at Rs 396.97 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2009, compared to Rs 162.55 crore for the corresponding period of the previous year. Revenues stood at Rs 2,015.62 crore as against Rs 2,026.13 crore, a fall of a paltry 0.51% mainly owing to the decrease in the fuel prices in the Mumbai Licence Area as compared to the corresponding quarter last year.

Revenue included an amount of Rs 232.40 crore pertaining to previous years’ due to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission tariff orders and judgment of the Appellate Tribunal on Energy received during this financial year.

The company’s generation was up 8% at 4,260 MUs as compared to 3,935 MUs while sales volume rose by 2% at 4,180 MUs as against 4,115 MUs in the corresponding period last year, a release issued by the company said.

While its Trombay Thermal Power Station generated 2,778 MUs as compared to 2,669 MUs in the previous year, Jojobera Thermal Power Station generated 803 MUs during the quarter compared to 784 MUs. Belgaum Independent Power Plant’s generation was 107 MUs.

Sales volume rose by 2% at 4,180 million units (MUs) against 4,115 MUs. The company added 1,615 customers, taking its total customer base to 27,620. Tata Power, at present, is engaged in a capacity addition of 5,290mw which comprises 4,000me of Mundra ultra mega power project. Tata Power shares closed at Rs 1,302.05, a gain of 0.63% at the BSE.
