Neuland Laboratories Ltd recently announced the promotion of Sucheth Rao as chief executive officer. An MBA from the University of Notre Dame, USA and a mechanicalengineer by qualification, he joined the global provider of API and other essential drug discovery and development services in 2002. He joined as vice-president (Operations) and chief operating officer (COO) and moved up over the years, strengthening the company?s operations by expanding capacities as well as streamlining processes.

Prior to joining Neuland Laboratories, Davuluri worked for Cummins Inc. USA in operations. Talking about his new role, he says, ?It has given me more energy and drive to accelerate the initiatives that will enable this company to increase value to its shareholders.? He adds, ?It means increased responsibility and accountability for the decision taken in the organisation and being aware of the significant risks of this business and managing them in a way that will have the least possible impact on the operations of the company.?

Talking about his future plans, he says, ?We plan to leverage Neuland?s capabilities to dominate the contract research, clinical research and API manufacturing markets. Neuland?s objective is to become an end-to-end service provider for the pharmaceutical industry in its core areas of business and capability. We want to expand our capabilities into other areas of drug discovery and development support services such as formulation.?


Ramesh Mani gets Scotland?s whisky society award

Ramesh Mani, chief executive officer, Focus Brands, won the coveted title Keeper Of the Quaich, which is considered Scotland?s most prestigious whisky society. Mani, who has served the industry for 13 years, won the title for his overall contribution to the industry.

Ask him what the title means to him and he says, ?A lot for all the efforts in pioneering bottled in India scotch and bottled in origin brands in the Indian markets.? At a time when the scotch war in India is intensifying, Mani joined Allied Domecq and successfully launched Teachers in India. He also planned the launch of Old Smuggler, Long John and the much publicised brand, Teachers 50.

Following Teachers, he decided to take on as business development director for promoting Cutty Sark. He has been passionately working on the brand for over six years and has established it as a front runner among the bottled in origin brands of scotch.
