Barely two days after the department of telecommunications (DoT) secretary Siddhartha Behura said there were no issues concerning the BlackBerry services, communications and IT minister A Raja said (DoT) is separately looking at third-party solution to address security concerns regarding the push mail service.
Raja also said network guidelines for 3G, and WiMax services will be announced in a week after consultations with the finance ministry.
“Broad guidelines for 3G and WiMax have been devised but they need some inputs from the finance ministry and after that the guidelines will be sent to the telecom commission and I expect the norms to be announced within a week. I will meet the finance minister and the Prime Minister on the issue,” Raja said on the sidelines of an industry function on Friday.
He said consultation with the finance ministry is necessary as the ministry has a say in the telecom commission, the policy making wing of the DoT. After the consultation is over, the guidelines will be sent to the telecom commission for notification, he said.
On the BlackBerry issue, about which the DoT secretary Behura recently said it was not a security threat to country, Raja said, “We cannot throw out BlackBerry services but the question is how to keep this service, while taking care of security measures at the same time. We do feel security measures can be taken care of with wider consultations.”
