EFFI-Cycle 18 teams from various engineering colleges will design and validate a vehicle catering to daily mobility needs at the two-day event

?Chaddo yaaron duniyadaari, BMW Ford Ferrari, effi-cycle di hai vaari, effi-cycle di hai vaari.? With the challenge to create consciousness amongst youth and to drive their minds towards environment friendly solutions for mobility engineering, the students of University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Panjab University, danced to the tunes of a song prepared and sung by the students? dramatics group-Osmium. Apart from the usual presentation and briefing about the competition by the students and the faculty, this innovative way of passing on the message by students was the highlight of the event.

The event on the campus was the announcement of the institute hosting Effi-cycle; a collegiate design competition where 18 teams from various engineering colleges would design, fabricate and validate a human power driven vehicle catering to the daily mobility needs.

SAEINDIA, the Indian chapter of SAE (Society of Automotive Engineering) International, a global non-profitable organisation involved in identifying ideas and innovations for advancing the engineering of mobility systems, has taken up one such initiative towards the cause of environment sustainability by creating awareness and amassing the youth to think upon technologies that would drive us towards a greener and cleaner future.

In line with this vision, SAEINDIA Northern Section introduces the Effi-Cycle 2010 Event, to be hosted at UIET Chandigarh, on October 23 and 24. Effi-cycle 2010 is a collegiate design competition where 18 teams from various engineering colleges across India would design and fabricate three wheeled human powered vehicles. These vehicles will be engineered to comply with the fundamentals of ergonomics at the same time being dynamically stable. Static and dynamic testing of these vehicles would reveal the craftsmanship of the teams, the design intent and the ability to endure and perform. The endurance race would test the vehicle for its ability to last, given the punishment of the challenging track.

The event bolstered by the veterans of the industry affiliates, seeks representation from NATRiP/iCAT, Maruti Suzuki, etc to name a few. With the inception of an event specifically catering to the environmental concern, the foundation has been laid for the students to contemplate over advanced technologies and charter the path towards a better tomorrow. Another unsaid benefit of the Effi-Cycle is that it inadvertently caters to the health and fitness needs of the people as well. SAEINDIA Northern Section and UIET have partnered to host this event at the beautiful city of Chandigarh, a place apt for such a gathering.

The stage is set and the curtains raised; let the youth drive our future towards a Gandhian and Green Sarvodaya (Universal Welfare) according to Prof Renu Vig, Director, UIET.
