The Department of Post (DoP) is currently talking to counterparts in various countries for a possible tie up to handle global communication business. DoP has recently launched its global business division to expand its operations across the globe.

A DoP official told FE that the department is all set to enter into a series of global tie-ups with its counterparts in US, Switzerland, France, Oman amongst others to take on competitors from several international monetary service companies including the Western Union and global courier companies like FedEx. The department also plans to rope in expertise from its foreign counterparts in specialised financial services and also offer end-to-end integrated direct marketing solutions in international postal services.

As a beginning, DoP has already inked pact with the postal service department of UAE for speedy remittance of money between the two nations. Partnerships with global majors will enable DoP to launch value-added and modern ICT-based services, the official said.

Such tie-ups will enable expatriates living across the globe to transmit huge remittances back home speedily without any hassles, he added.

Similarly, the official noted that the department has already inked pact with Deutsche Post that envisages partnership in the field of conveyance and distribution of mails, logistics, warehousing operations and financial services.

He added, The DoP has also tied up with US-based postal solutions provider Pitney Bowes to offer enhanced mailing services to the users.

Besides, Pitney Bowes also proposes to set up ATM-like kiosks at major post offices from where users will be able to send mails and parcels. We are also looking forward to mechanical solutions from various postal administrations for sorting of mails to make the working of the department fast and reliable, the official said.
