The Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission rejected the distribution companies? demand for a hike in power tariffs for 2009-10. This is for the 12th consecutive year the regulator refused to hike the tariff.
According to the tariff order announced by OERC, domestic consumers would pay Rs 1.40 per unit for the first 100 units, Rs 2.30 for the next 100 units and Rs 3.10 for units above 200.
The energy charge for agriculture also remains unchanged at Rs 1.10 per unit.
For general purpose like street lighting, the tariffs stay at Rs 3.20 for the first 100 units, Rs 4.10 for the next 100 units and Rs 4.50 for units above 200.
The state is currently facing a power deficit of around 400mw owing to poor water levels in a majority of the reservoirs.
