Since the launch of single window mechanism for expediting clearances of the industrial projects by the Orissa Government in 2005, the state is gradually moving into top rank of business friendly states in the country, a United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (Unido) investors? survey has said.
?The single window mechanism has led to major improvements in investment clearance processing but the very success of Orissa in attracting inward investment had added further stress to the transport infrastructure, power and water supplies and waste disposal,? the second survey conducted in 2008 said. The respondents for the last year survey by comparison with a similar survey carried out in 2005, reported power outages occurring for a shorter period of time and now down to average reported for Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
?Orissa has now achieved the Indian national average in terms of the time spent by management in dealing with regulations and government authorities,? the Unido survey observed While in many parts of the country the land acquisition for industrial use has sparked off protests from people, the survey said as the state government owns a large proportion of land, ?this provides the authorities with a very powerful investment promotion tool?.
The survey was conducted by collecting random sample of 289 companies and two thirds of the firms participating in the survey began investing in Orissa after 2005.
