Finding a connection between the Gujarat and Himachal election results and the recent attacks against Christians in Orissa, the CPI(M) on Thursday said that the BJP is embarking on ??an aggressive communal offensive?? eyeing the forthcoming general elections. Claiming that Orissa the violence cannot be seen as an isolated one, the party said that the Sangh Parivar is ??deliberately trying to damage?? the secular fabric of the country.
??What is happening in Orissa is chillingly reminiscent of how the RSS and the BJP consolidated its hold in Gujarat. Now LK Advani repeatedly threatens to convert all Indian states into Gujarat,?? CPI(M) politburo member Sitaram Yechury said in an editorial published in the CPI(M) mouthpiece People’s Democracy.
??This anti-Christian campaign in Orissa is not an isolated breakdown of law and order. It is part of an overall strategy to transform modern India through the subversion of its republican principles,?? Yechury said. ??Any attempt to subvert the fundamental pillars of our Constitution can only create havoc for the unity and integrity of India,?? he added.
