The state-run NTPC has hit out against the petroleum ministry?s submission to the Bombay High Court that NTPC does not have a concluded contract with RIL for the supply of 12 mmscmd of gas. NTPC has observed, ?The interjection on the part of the counsel for the petroleum ministry is not only uncalled for but it has caused unnecessary publicity and embarrassment to all concerned.?
Informed sources told FE, ?NTPC has filed petition against RIL for specific performance of contract with RIL. The power corporation has taken out a notice of motion for interlocutory relief which was heard by the high court. After hearing the solicitor general, who appeared for NTPC and Harish Salve for RIL, the high court was of the view that the dispute was of enormous national and public interests.?
NTPC sources said, ?The power ministry has forwarded its message to the Prime Minister?s Office and also to the petroleum and law and justice ministries.?
The power corporation sources reiterated that petroleum ministry counsel?s submission comes at a time when it was making all efforts to carry out capacity addition of about 25,000 mw in 11th Plan and also striving to procure adequate gas for its existing power projects and for those in the pipeline.
