Apparently irked over the move by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) recommending a CBI probe into the allegations made in the Tehelka sting operation on the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat, the BJP on Tuesday accused the commission of playing a partisan role.
Venting party’s displeasure over the NHRC’s move, BJP spokesperson Ravi Shanker Prasad accused the UPA for subverting institutions to suit its cause. “There is no question of either welcoming or condemning the move of the NHRC recommending CBI enquiry into the allegations made in the Tehelka tapes. The real question is to see how the present government is using constitutional institutions to its benefit,” he said.
Since the UPA took over the power at the Centre, the NHRC on several occasion took partisan stand and it?s a well-known fact now, Prasad said without elaborating about other cases.
Arguing that since the cases relating to post-Godhra riots have many a time traveled to the Supreme Court and the court had on many occasions asked for re-opening or re-investigations of the cases, where is the need now to have a CBI enquiry, he asked.
