With Hindi movies Wanted and Dil Bole Hadippa opening to a good response at the box office, analysts expect the upcoming festive season to improve the fortunes of the industry.
Devang Sampat, senior VP, Cinemax, said, ?Both the films were expected to perform well at the box office. Together, they have garnered 60% collections.? The two films, which released on September 18, garnered around Rs 1 crore each over the weekend at Cinemax.
Prabhudeva?s Hindi directorial debut Wanted saw 70% occupany on day one and 85% over the weekend. Wanted grossed around Rs 5.75 crore on the first day and Rs 18 crore over the first weekend.
Moreover, the film is said to have performed well in places like Bihar (Rs 55 lakh), West Bengal (Rs 80 lakh) and Tamil Nadu (Rs 30 lakh).
Yash Raj?s banner Dil Bole Hadippa made on a budget of Rs 25 crore saw around 60% occupancy at multiplexes and around 40% at single screens. The film grossed Rs 3.75 crore on day one and Rs 12 crore over the first weekend. According to trade analysts, both the film are expected to put up a better show during Eid and Durga Puja.
Meanwhile, multiplexes say that the bigger bash of the festive season will be seen next month, with several big budget films lined up for release ? starting with Karan Johar?s Wake Up Sid on October 2, followed by Ajay Devgan?s All the Best, Sohail Khan?s Main Aur Mrs Khanna. The list is not yet over as October will see the release of Sujoy Ghosh?s Aladin starring Amitabh Bachchan in a role of a genie and director Vipul Shah?s London Dreams made on a budget of Rs 75 crore.
As per film analyst Vinod Mirani, ?October is all set to see some mega releases which look promising with big star cast and good subject. Shri Ashtavinayak?s Blue, starring Kylie Minogue, made on budget of around Rs 130 crore is the most awaited film of the season.?
UTV Motion Pictures and Ashutosh Gowariker?s What?s Your Rashee? starring Priyanka Chopra in 12 different roles will be released on September 25.
Moreover, last week?s release Baabarr and Vaada Raha grossed Rs 1 crore and Rs 75 lakh respectively in the first week.
