Momentive Performance Materials Inc. (formerly GE Bayer Silicones) has tied up with Chennai-based Anabond to develop, manufacture and market SPUR sealants used mainly by the construction and automobile industries.
SPUR sealant is a hybrid that exhibits excellent properties in terms of non-stain, non-bleed, paintable, high strength, primerliess adhesion, fast cure and durable.
Momentive is a premier speciality materials company, with world-wide operations, providing high-technology materials solutions to the silicones, quartz and ceramics markets. Momentive is setting up its own plant at Orgadam, investing $25 million, to manufacture various silicon products.
Anabond is the first Indian company to manufacture anaerobic adhesives and sealants, RTV silicone sealants and single component epoxies. It is a mjor manufacturer and supplier of liquid gaskets for Indian automobile engine and transmission in India.
Utilising Momentive technology and expertise, Anabond will manufacture SPUR selants at its Pondicherry plant. The product is expected to be available in the market by February 2009.
Momentive and Anabond have agreed to jointly develop SPUR sealants and market them in the defined areas. Momentive will market this product in the construction segment and Anabond in the automotive and electrical and electronics segment under license from Momentive. Other areas not specified under the agreement are open to both the companies for marketing their products based on mutual understanding.
Momentive will provide all necessary technical inputs and support to Anabond for any experiments / trials by extending their Application Development Facility (s) in India or overseas. They will also assist Anabond in developing formulation and process for the compounding of SPUR sealants. Momentive will also provide production technology, supply of raw materials, packing materials and training to Anabond?s production team, V P Nalian, managing director, Momentive Performance Materials said.
