The LA8600 sits on an attractive chrome stand that LG calls ?Magic Swivel?. A built in roller on the bottom of the stand allows the TV to be swiveled to the left and right to adjust viewing angle. The TV isn?t completely bezel-less; though they try to keep a bezel-free design on the top and sides that gives the impression of a floating screen but there is a thin (0.7-inch) glossy black bezel at the bottom edge of the panel with a small LG logo.
There are many connectivity options available with this unit. On the left side are four HDMI ports and three USB ports, one of which supports USB 3.0 standard. Facing down on the backside are ports that include shared component/composite AV jacks, an optical digital audio output, a LAN port, an antenna/cable jack, and a headphone/external speaker output. On the right side you will get the volume and Channel Up/Down, Settings, Select, Input, and Power buttons.
The LA8600?s Smart TV interface is pretty similar to the last year?s models with just a few small changes. No big changes in the user interface, an easy-access taskbar runs along the bottom of the LA8600?s Smart TV screen. This LA8600 model comes with two remote controls, one regular remote control and other one which they call a ?Magic Remote?. The remote has an integrated microphone allowing users to dictate commands through certain apps, functions as an on-screen pointer and has a scroll wheel that can be used in the Web browser or to change channels. The voice commands are hit and miss. Also, we found some lag while moving from screen to screen which we didn?t expect from such a high end product.
This topline model has an excellent picture quality. The LA8600 has Vivid, Standard, Eco, Cinema and Game picture presets. We played some high quality HD videos TV. This is LG?s top of the line LED model for 2013 which is available in two variants?55 and 60 inches. We reviewed the latter, which has a 200 Hz, LED-backlit screen that includes some good features like LG?s ?Magic Swivel? stand, twin TV tuners, a built-in Skype and motion control camera, Cinema 3D technology, and much more and 3D content and got good clarity and contrast.
However, the glass is a little reflective so for better view, just pull those curtain or switch of those lights. LG bundles four pairs of regular 3D glasses with the TV, along with a single pair of DualPlay glasses that allow private, split-screen multiplayer gaming. The glasses don?t require batteries to work, which is a big advantage over the active 3D technology. We played Avatar 3D in this and the 3D quality is quite impressive. LG 55LA8600 LED TV consumed 104 watts of power in Standard mode, 68 watts in Eco mode and 81 watts in Picture mode.
Bottom line: If you want a big-screen set that offers all the latest technologies, including a 240 Hz refresh rate, passive 3D, and a wealth of Web services, then LA8600 can be one of the list.
