More than hundred JDS activists, including five of its legislators, were taken into custody today for staging rasta roko on Bangalore-Mysore road protesting against distribution of sarees by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.
MLAs– M Srinivas, Ramesh Bandisiddegowda, C S Puttaraju, Kalpana Siddaraju and B Ramachandra, MLC were among those who were taken into custody, police said.
Hundreds of JDS activists squatted on the road demanding that Yeddyurappa should not distribute sarees, which they claimed were of “cheap” quality and being done to lure voters ahead of the zilla and taluk panchayat elections likely to be held next month.
However Yeddyurappa went ahead with the function got up to distribute sarees to women and slammed the JDS and Congress for their non-cooperation to the government sponosored programme.
Yeddyurappa government has been distributing sarees to women, covered under Bhagyalakshmi girl child insurance scheme across the state ahead of the panchayat polls, which was also being reented by the opposition Congress.
