Police have recovered firearms and several crude bombs from a local CPI(M) party office at Itaberia in the Bhupatinagar police station area in East Midnapore. Locals, led by TMC leaders, raided the party office in the morning and police also rushed to the spot.

Pallab Kanti Ghosh, district police chief of East Midnapore, said that police have recovered guns, ammunition and few crude bombs from the CPI(M) party office in the Bhupatinagar police station area.

Reacting to the incident, Kanu Sahoo, CPI(M) district committee secretary of East Midnapore, said that TMC supporters organised attacks to capture the CITU party office at Itaberia. Following this, CITU members took shelter at a nearby CPI(M) party office. The TMC activists raided the CPM party office and party members fled the area, he claimed.

Sisir Adhikari, TMC MP from Contai and minister of state for rural development said that CPI(M) cadres stockpiled firearms in party offices across the district and today's incident at Bhupatinagar was a glaring example of how the CPM has been functioning in the district.

On police boycott at Khejuri, Adhikari said that police would be socially dissociated and not boycotted. Earlier, the TMC had called for police boycott and asked shopkeepers not to sell products to them. Adhikari explained that the police will not get any cooperation from locals until the 13 TMC activists arrested for creating violence were released on bail.
