The Delhi High Court on Thursday reserved its order on a public interest petition challenging the collection of airport development fee (ADF) from passengers departing from the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

A division bench of Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice Manmohan reserved their order for August 25 after hearing the arguments from the Airport Authority of India (AAI), Delhi International Authority Limited (DIAL) and Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL).

The petition was filed by Resources of Aviation Redressal Association, against the decision to levy ADF by the government.

In March this year, the government has asked all airlines to charge Rs 200 from outgoing domestic passengers and Rs 1,300 from international commuters as ADF for a period of three years at the time of issuing air tickets and not upon checking in at the airport.

The development fee is then remitted to Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the developer of the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The petition stated that DIAL has no power to levy or collect ADF from passengers.
