Havells India Ltd, the electricals and power equipment major, expects its business in eastern India to grow by 50% on the turnover of Rs 330 crore reported for 2007-08.
Anil Gupta, joint managing director, said Havells India reported a turnover of around Rs 3000 crore last year on its own, and around Rs 5000 crore taking into account its acquisition of Germany-based Sylvania.
While the cables and wires business accounts for half the Indian firm’s turnover, switchgear fetches Rs 500 crore and fans and lighting the rest.
Gupta said Havells is also exploring the possibilities in LED lighting, in which electronic circuitry is used to control light-emitting diodes (LEDs).
However, while LEDs offer huge savings in power consumption, current technology has not been able to make it affordable for large scale use.
