The Haryana government has decided to reduce the rate of entertainment duty on fun parks and cultural activities from existing 25% to 10 %.

It also decided to exempt Golf Clubs from payment of entertainment duty.

A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the state Cabinet held under the chairmanship of chief minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday.

It was observed that a number of fun parks and theme parks have come up in different parts of the state during the last few years and they have been regularly submitting representations to seek exemption from payment of entertainment duty on the ground that they are providing neat and clean entertainment where children can enjoy joy or water rides.

Other states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, MP, Chattisgarh, Gujarat and Delhi do not levy entertainment tax on fun parks. Likewise, cultural programme including plays, musical concerts, dances, fashion shows are not regular features where fee is charged, such activities cannot be compared with cinema shows.

With the above two measures, the state will lose about Rs 10 crore per annum.
