Angry over Rajasthan government?s refusal to recommend scheduled tribe status for them in the state, the Gujjar community have threatened to widen their opposition to the saffron party in other states where they have a presence.

Gujjar community leaders have announced that they will ?boycott? the BJP countrywide if the party fails to heed their demand in Rajasthan for declaring them tribals. The pressure tactics signal a welcome news for the Congress, which has been trying to woo the community, presently included under the OBC category, for some time now. Gujjars are in significant numbers in Rajasthan, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir besides having a presence in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh.

?Despite promising the status, the BJP government in Rajasthan has not taken any step. So we have decided to boycott the BJP across the country,? Akhil Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha vice-president Gopichand Gurjar said at Indore.
