Home appliance maker Electrolux is betting big on its refrigerator category, and plans to sell around 5.5 lakh units in the fiscal 2008-09, targeting a market share of over 11% from the present 7.5%.
“In 2008-09, we plan to sell 5.5 lakh units of refrigerators, with the frost free range alone accounting for 1.5 lakh units. During the current fiscal we will close at around 4.5 lakh units of refrigerators — 3.5 lakh units in the direct cool category and the rest from frost free,” chief operating officer of Electrolux Division, Anirudh Dhoot said. The company is looking at selling 1.5 lakh units of refrigerators in the next three months (April-June), eyeing a growth of 20% over the same period last? year.
“We will spend Rs 7 crore on marketing of refrigerators during the summer season,” Dhoot added. The company’s new facility at Kashipur?in Uttarakhand, which is scheduled to commence operations from next month, will manufacture around 5 lakh refrigerators?and 3 lakh?units of air conditioners in the first year of operation.
