The DMK is reportedly considering to withdraw its ministers from the Union government, even as its leader MK Kanimozhi was denied bail on Wednesday by the Delhi High Court in the 2G scam case.

As soon as the news of Kanimozhi’s bail plea being rejected broke, all DMK MPs and ministers converged at chemicals and fertilisers minister MK Alagiri’s residence in Delhi.

A long meeting was held and, sources say, in consultation with former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi, a decision to hold the party’s national executive meeting in Chennai on June 10 was taken.

Sources said no decision on withdrawal of support to the government would be taken before the CBI files a final chargesheet in the 2G case by June 30. ?Chances of Kanimozhi getting bail after the final chargesheet are high and the DMK does not want to precipitate a crisis before that,? said a senior MP from the party.

?However, Kalaignar is deeply upset over the continued incarceration of Kanimozhi and is quite inconsolable,? he added. ?We have to do something,? he said.

Textile minister Dayanidhi Maran, however, found little support from his party on Wednesday, with Karunanidhi saying quite emphatically that Maran would have to fight charges levelled against him with regard to the Aircel Maxis deal ?by himself?.
