An extended meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Saturday will strategise on the gameplan including possible alliances for the forthcoming Assembly elections in six states as well as the Lok Sabha elections next year.
The jumbo gathering is also expected to formally lavish praise on the Congress leadership and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the success on the nuclear deal with the party focussing on how to capitalise on it in the coming elections. Inflation, which is now decreasing bit by bit each week, will also figure in the discussions, party leaders said this evening.
Around 150 delegates, comprising party general secretaries, secretaries, CWC members, PCC presidents, CLP leaders along with Union ministers present at the meeting chaired by party president Sonia Gandhiwill also finalise the campaign theme for the elections.
“Suitable slogans on UPA government’s efforts and success in energy security, poverty alleviation, loan waiver of farmers besides others are expected to be finalised in the CWC meeting,” party leaders said. The extended meeting of the CWC is taking place in place of a “chintan shivir” due to lack of time before the assembly elections.
