Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), Hisar has urged the cotton farmers to complete the sowing of indigenous cotton by April 30 to obtain higher yield.

RP Narwal, research director of the CCSHAU said that considering an increase in temperature these days, the farmers of arid zone must complete the sowing of cotton by the end of April otherwise the plants of cotton could be burnt due to heat. Deep ploughing of field, use of recommended certified seeds and integrated use of manure-fertilisers as per soil tests were the factors responsible to increase yield of the crop, he added. Narwal said HD-123, HD-324, AAH-1 were some of the advanced varieties of indigenous cotton, which could be sown over every kind of land except saline and water logged. Seed treatment was necessary before sowing to get higher production of cotton. Barring a few advanced farmers, most of the farmers sow the seeds of cotton without treating them. He asked the farmers to complete sowing of HS-6 and H-1117 variety of Narma cotton in the first week of May and after this, other varieties, such as- H-1098 and H-1226 could be sown.
