Public sector lender Central Bank of India on Tuesday said its net profit in the December quarter grew 75.74 per cent at Rs 353.26 crore over the corresponding period a year ago.

The bank had a net profit of Rs 201.01 crore in the same quarter last fiscal, the bank said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The total income of lender rose to Rs 3,033.41 crore in the third quarter of current fiscal from Rs 2,205.48 crore a year ago.

While, for the nine-month period ended December 31, 2008, Central Bank of India registered a net profit of Rs 508.73 crore, a 20.27 per cent growth over the corresponding period a year ago.

It had a net profit of Rs 422.96 crore in the same period last year.

For the nine-month period, the bank’s total income rose to Rs 8,374.83 crore from Rs 6,187.69 crore a year ago.

Shares of Central Bank of India on Tuesday settled at Rs 38.45, up 3.92 per cent on the BSE.
