India on Wednesday asked Pakistan to verify reports that underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, has been detained by authorities in the port city of Karachi. The CBI on Wednesday wrote a letter to Pakistan?s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) seeking its comments on recent media reports about the detention of Dawood.

In the letter the CBI has asked the Pakistani investigative agency to verify and confirm the reports that Dawood sustained bullet injuries in a shootout at a Karachi hotel and then was taken into custody by the authorities there, sources said.

Dawood, who was recently designated as a global terrorist by the US, is also wanted by New Delhi for his involvement in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

He is wanted by the US for his alleged links with international terror group al-Qaeda and is facing an Interpol red corner notice for his involvement in various organised crimes in India.
