Nagaland is set to be put under President?s rule, with the Centre on Wednesday seeking President Pratibha Patil?s assent on its recommendation for imposition of Article 356 in the state.
Sources in the home ministry said the papers relating to the issue have been sent to Rashtrapati Bhawan and a notification to the effect will be issued once the President returns from her visit to Hyderabad on January 7.
Reacting over the development, the BJP condemned the Centre’s move to impose President rule in the state and asked the Centre, if it happened in Nagaland, Goa should also be put under Central rule.
??If the ruling of the Speaker disqualifying members under the anti-defection law is the premise for imposing President?s rule in Nagaland then the Goa government should be dismissed first,?? BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.
Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio said ,??such a move will be illegal and unconstitutional, as I won the trust vote in Nagaland Assembly on December 13.??
