Base metals strengthened up to Rs 5 per kg in the local non-ferrous metal market today on emergence of buying by stockists in tandem with a firming global trend. The trading sentiment turned better after copper advanced in global markets on encouraging US data and European leaders accelerated payments to a bailout fund.
Meanwhile, copper for three-month delivery rose 0.5 per cent to USD 8,670 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange. In the national capital, copper mixed scrap and nickel (4×4) rose by Rs 2 and Rs 5 to Rs 386 and Rs 1066-1068 per kg, respectively. Zinc ingot, lead ingot and lead imported were also traded higher by Rs 2 each to Rs 120-126, Rs 133 and Rs 131 per kg, respectively.
