The government has been receiving complaints about low credit deposit ratio for the Indian banks, said finance minister Pranab Mukherjee.
?Sometimes we receive complaints that the amount of money deposited in the banks does not match the amount of advances,? he said.
While he did not elaborate on the issue he said overall performance of the banks in the country have been satisfactory.
Present at the opening of the UCO bank branch at Raghunathpur in Jangipur sub division-his parliamentary constituency, Mukherjee said Indian banks are reaping benefits the benefits of the nationalisation even 40 years after it was done.?Nationalisation of the Indian banks has been criticised earlier. It was said that the banking industry would be destroyed,? he said. ?While major banks in US and Europe crumbled after the financial crisis, Indian banks have been able to tide over the problem,? he added. ?While they had (US and Europe) to bail out the banks, we did not even have to give a penny to Indian banks even during the crisis,? he said.
