Asia MotorWorks Ltd (AMW) may look at exporting trucks to markets like the Middle East and South Africa once the capacity addition takes place at its only plant in Bhuj in Gujarat, indicated RC Mangal, the company’s senior vice-president, marketing.

AMW plans to scale up the capacity of the Bhuj plant from 10,000 units at present to 50,000 units by May next year, Mangal said. An investment of around Rs 500 crore has been made into the facility.

He, however, added that the

immediate need was to consolidate the company’s presence in the

country.

AMW aims at grabbing more than 90% market share in the niche segment of 49 tonnage vehicles. The company claims to have a market share of 75% in the segment at present.

AMW on Monday launched its second higher tonnage vehicle – the 4930 tractor in Mumbai aimed at heavy project cargo and over dimensional cargo segments.

With a 300 horse power engine, 4930 TR is priced at around Rs 27 lakh. “We are looking at 20%-30% of market share with this new truck,” said Anirudh Bhuwalka, MD & CEO, Asian MotorWorks Ltd, adding that the volumes will start coming in the next fiscal year.

Overall, the company enjoys a market share of 10%. It plans to close this fiscal with sales of 5,000 units and expects to double the number by the next fiscal. Despite its main focus on heavy commercial vehicles (upward of 25 tonnage vehicles), AMW plans to have presence in all segments of the commercial vehicles, with plans to showcase light commercial vehicles (LCVs) at the upcoming Auto Expo in New Delhi.

?We are a commercial vehicles company and will look at a presence across all segments,? said Bhuwalka. ?We will have LCVs on display at the upcoming Auto Expo,? he added.
