Governor K Sankaranarayanan on Tuesday made a reference to the Supreme Court (SC) about the removal of State Information Commissioner Ramanand Tiwari, an alleged beneficiary in the Adarsh housing society scam.

On January 11, the state Cabinet had approved action against Tiwari by deciding to request the Governor to make a recommendation to the SC seeking his removal for "misconduct". It had also recommended that until the time the inquiry into this matter was underway in the SC, the Governor should use his powers under the Right to Information (RTI) Act to suspend Tiwari from his post and prevent him from being present in office.

Raj Bhawan officials on Tuesday said the Governor had made a reference to the SC on Ramanand Tiwari under Section 17(1) of the Right to Information Act.
