The Campaign
The new Pepsi TV commercial shows a young girl arguing with her father and stating that she is not interested in meeting any prospective grooms. But her father insists that she meets the boy. The girl then sends a text message to her friends, asking for help. In the next shot, the girl’s family and the boy’s family are seen sitting together. The camera focuses on the bottle of Pepsi the boy holds. Just then Ranbir Kapoor appears at the door. He barges into the house and asks ?what is happening?? Both the families look shocked and give the girl a suspicious look. Kapoor then gets close to the boy and pretends to be in love with him, saying that he can’t ditch him for this girl. Surprised, the boy protests and denies that he has anything to do with Kapoor. Just then another friend storms in and asks him if he can’t identify him too. The match is cancelled and the girl thanks her friends for helping her. To which Kapoor replies that he was actually rescuing the Pepsi. The ad ends with the ‘Youngistan ka WOW tagline.
Our Take
The new TV commercial takes the ‘Youngistan Ka Wow’ concept ahead. A concept that sees the youth tackle any difficult situation in its own unique style. The plot is built on an everyday setting unlike the previous Kapoor Pepsi campaign that revolved around a president and his over-vigilant guards. The ad showcases the attitude and spirit of friendship and has a simple story line, that makes it all the more enjoyable. The characters are apt for the plot and the execution of the story has been done in a delightful manner.
However, the climax is not a surprise. It is a story that you somewhat thought would conclude in this manner. Maybe it is because of all the Bollywood blockbusters that you have watched. The ad has retained all the elements that a youngster can relate to ? friendship, kahani mein twist (a twist in the tale), fun and attitude. The brand ambassador has been used well. Pepsi has tried its best to come up with a witty commercial and the attempt has been successful. happy about the climb down!
