Acting as an energy-efficient alternative to generating power through diesel, rooftop solar photovoltaic (SPV) systems gaining popularity among the private companies in Haryana.
Of the five proposals sent to the ministry of new and renewable energy by Haryana renewable energy development agency (Hareda), three projects have been approved.
A senior official of Hareda told FE that three standalone SPV power projects of 225 kw have been approved for Gurgaon under the SPV rooftop programme. ?Two solar power projects of 100 kw each will be set up at Omax Autos, Manesar and Automax, village-Binola, Gurgaon at a cost of Rs 2.6 crore each. The ministry will provide financial assistance of Rs 75 lakh for each project. The third project of 25-kw capacity will be set up at Serco BPO in Gurgaon at a cost of Rs 88.5 lakh for which they will be provided a subsidy of Rs 18.75 lakh by the ministry.?
The scheme aims to motivate commercial and industrial establishments like hotels, hospitals and housing complexes to replace diesel gen-sets installed for captive requirement during load sheddings with these plants.
As per the scheme, central financial assistance for rooftop SPV projects will be provided at Rs 75 per watt (Rs 75,000 per kw) for SPV panels to a maximum of 30% of the cost of system to profit-making bodies availing depreciation benefits. In case of non-profit making bodies, assistance at Rs 100 per watt (Rs 1 lakh/kw) to a maximum of 40% of the cost would be given. 50% of the financial assistance would be released in advance by the ministry immediately after supply of equipment at site. The subsidy amount can be paid back by the beneficiary in 5 years. But special cases would be considered for assistance if smaller systems, not less than 10 kw are installed.
