The Dublin Airport Authority has offered discounted airport tariff and lower pre-check in charges to national carrier Air India in case the airline decides to set up a hub in Ireland. DDA, which operates three airports in Ireland, has also promised a three-day free entry visa to Ireland for passengers transiting via Dublin to the US.
“Air India would annually save 14 million euros on airport charges alone if the airline operates same number of flights to and from Dublin as it operates from Frankfurt. We have proposed them to offer pre-check in charges at least 10 euros lower for each passenger,” DAA communications director Vincent Wall said.
Air India recently said it would dismantle its Frankfurt hub as it was proving very expensive. Nearly half a dozen airport operators in Europe including Birmingham and Manchester have been wooing Air India to set up a hub. While some of the airport operators have been pitching for AI’s possible hub in Europe, AI said it would use the newly-opened terminal at the Capital’s IGI for its international operation.
