As protests against the film continued, the producers of Aamir Khan-starrer ‘PK’ yesterday said the film’s box office collections have broken Dhoom 3′ record to become the biggest grosser in Bollywood by collecting Rs 294 crore, including Rs 8.32 crore on its third Saturday, since its release on December 19.
With no big movies around, the film is still going strong on box office and need just Rs 6 crore to reach the magical figure of Rs 300 crore.
Director Rajkumar Hirani, while breaking the news, said the film’s word-of-mouth performance has been overwhelming.
“I had never in my wildest dreams thought this film will cross these numbers. It reinforces faith that content is king. We can continue making films we believe in. The messages I get are overwhelming. People are watching the film over and over again. It’s humbling,” Rajkumar Hirani said in a statement.

The manner in which ‘PK’ movie has kept up its momentum in building up box office collections burnishes the Aamir Khan aura further and gives greater credence to the trend of his movies packing great stamina for the long run – his movies may start a little slow, but as the days turn into weeks, they show no signs of slacking in pulling in the crowds into theatres.
‘PK’ with its Rs 278.52 crores at the box office is the second film by both Aamir Khan and Hirani after ‘3 Idiots’ (Rs 202 crore) to be a part of the Rs 200 crore club.
Aamir-starrer ‘Dhoom 3’ is second biggest earner with Rs 271.82 crores followed by Salman Khan starrer ‘Kick’ (Rs 231.85 crore) and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chennai Express’ (Rs 227.13 crore).

‘PK’ box office collections have been exceptional in the international markets, having generated Rs 124 crore at the overseas box office. ‘PK’ has faced criticism by right-wing organisations, who said the Aamir Khan-starrer film disrespects Hindu religion, an allegation rejected by its makers.
Reporters asking me, how much I think PK will make??? I feel it has already made much much more than money!

The film has further added Rs 134 crore from its overseas earning in North America, the UK, Australia and Gulf countries, with the producers hoping for a bigger increase tomorrow, when details from other territories would be available.
